Now that KD is hurt, nothing matters in Free Agency of 2019 until Kawhi makes his move.
When KD went down immediately the thoughts about free agency and how this year was stacked with probabilities as to what was going be the next super team and who was going to team with who, went out the window. All year there was speculation about how Kawhi and KD could team up in LA with the Clippers, or how Kyrie and KD could team up in New York with the Knicks to formulate their own one-two punch while possibly still bringing in a third player. But now things have shifted dramatically.
With Kawhi now being the front man, one has to ask themself if now wherever Kawhi goes, will the next superstar follow? This becomes extremely relative because Kawhi was initially looked at as the sweetener to the process of creating the next super team with KD being the coffee. Teams were figuring that if you could get KD you could have higher hopes on selling yourself to Kawhi who is very stoic and uneasily swayed. However, with these unlikely changes Kawhi finds himself in more of a driver seat than the mainstream media wants to let on too.
If Kawhi were to stay in Toronto, and really wanted to ensure himself on being able to create a dynasty there, he could proposition for Toronto to move Kyle Lowry and other pieces to make room for Kyrie or KD to the "North" with him. This is something that no one has mentioned at all. The dynamics have changed to where once it was assumed that wherever Kevin went someone was going to be willing to follow him there. However, who wants to follow the injured star who will not play with you until the following year after you sign and possibly not be at his best. This potentially can cause you a 2 year setback in your trajectory in trying to accomplish winning an NBA Championship.
This takes away any leverage possibly that KD once had in being able to dominate the moves of his counterparts. Leaving room for Kawhi to be the new King of the Court with all pun intended.
