Dave East delivers another solid project. It is clear that he is making sure he stays in his lane and attempt to knock it out the park.
Deeming himself as a new age throwback New York artist East prides himself off keeping things street. He maintains his storytelling ability and straightforward approach to writing. Nothing is left up to metaphorical imagination and that works for East.
He is not attempting to be a lyricist but more so making sure he let's those who listen to him know that what he talks about is authentic. He is telling first person narratives and that for him separates him amongst his peers. Most rappers these days who attempt to not be in the lane of mumble rap outside of Pusha T tend to tell street tales from a fly on the wall perspective like Kendrick, Cole, Big Sean and Drake sometimes.
It is refreshing to deal with an Artist like East because it makes the history of what Hip Hop is suppose to be live on. What's also refreshing is Dave is unapologetic in making it known that he is not the activist rapper. He is not trying to preach to anyone but just letting people know what comes with the territories of living the life Dave and others live. It's living cinema.
Karma 3 started off very strong with the first 5 tracks coming in strong but soon after began to fade off with intensity and content. However that didn't maintain as the energy quickly picked back up again which is critical because most projects today tend to have three songs and nothing else. So it was great to see that out of 15 songs, 10 of them are easily listenable on a consistent basis.
This time around Dave delivered a very solid project and it appears that he is getting better and better at making whole projects. But it also helps when production is really good all throughout the album!
