It has been a very long and roller coaster career for Logic and retirement may not be set in stone but it was definitely necessary.
Throughout the course of Logic's career he has had to deal with the constant criticism of either not being good enough of an Emcee or being corny. Coining himself as a back pack rapper Logic has consistently conveyed the techniques and skill set of a good lyricist and rapper. However, he has just never been heralded as one of the greats.
One of Logic's most notorious critics Joe Budden has deemed Logic a cornball in rap, stating over and over again that his content is boring, he tries to hard, or that he just isn't a good rapper. Leading many Logic fans wondering what Logic has done so bad to receive this type of criticism. Even though music is subjective, the subjectivity should come with some objective analysis and there comes a point when you just have to say people just love to hate.
Deemed as Logic's last album, No Pressure was a good way to go out. The album being produced solely by No I.D. it was beautiful to listen to Logic be carefree on this project. Even being able to speak directly to critics for being mad at him for wanting to speak on mental health issues or coming off lame because he promotes peace, love and positivity.
It was good to hear that Logic was affected by the outside noise because it humanized him. Alot of times music fans look at artists as celebrities and figures and forget they feel and hurt like the next person. But because they are public figures we feel that it's okay to treat and speak about them without empathy.
Logic recognized throughout this entire album that while he spent the majority of his career trying to make music to empower and implore people to be great, he would never be the people's champ. He also displayed great humility in being able to acknowledge that he looked up to other rappers like Kendrick and J. Cole who are his competitive peers. Which to me shows the self awareness and the lack of envy Logic possesses.
Throughout the album Logic displayed that he was meant to make it. That he put in the time to write and develop his craft as an emcee. Although there will forever be many to hate on Logic forever it appears that Logic has found peace with not being loved by all. Which is hard to settle on when as humans we are innately creatures that group and need acceptance. But it is nice to hear that Logic has found peace and comfort in knowing he achieved his goals, helped many along the way, and let his light shine and can now peacefully enjoy parenthood with no regrets! Congrats to you Logic on a great retirement! Time well served!
