B.O.B makes his return in 2020 with his latest work being quite lackluster. It seems that B.O.B is becoming bored with the art of rapping and hiphop and today's current pop sound.
It is apparent that he can still be witty and rap but you can tell that the passion is no longer. B.O.B came into the rap game with so much promise and hope to carry on hip hop tradition while still being able to crossover and give pop radio tunes. It seems however somewhere down the road the price of fame was too rich for him and things became overwhelming.
If you follow B.O.B you know that he has religiously spoke about selling your soul as an artist to be at the top and that was something he wasn't going to do. Usually it is noted as something more metaphorical or mythical but from B.O.B he makes it seems like a real thing that is done and because of that his career has been stifled.
In recent works he talked about how if he didn't have certain industry artists on his records he wouldn't even get radio spin which is crazy seeing that he came out the gate with billboard hits that stayed heavy in radio rotation. Which makes it clear that there is indeed a game that is played behind closed doors and maybe those doors have been completely shut off to B.O.B.
But what's an artist without exposure? Or what's an artist who loses exposure? Both of them culminate to being a disheartened artist. To go from being at the top to now people barely knowing you put out music has to be a massive ego hit. Which would make sense for why the lack of passion is heard in all of B.O.B's work since Underground Luxury (outside of Elements).
However, the hope is that B.O.B will soon find the passion again as he becomes more comfortable with the choices he has made in his career to not participate in the carousel. But until then slowly but surely no one will want to hear another B.O.B project!
